Are you alarmed because a friend took a picture of you with
their cell phone and there is a ghost in it? Wait! There is no need to be
scared! Odds are your friend was only punking you.
Photography apps for cell phones are making hoax pictures
like these extremely easy to do and in some cases very realistic looking. And believe it or not, they can be created in just minutes with free or inexpensive software that operates on most cell
phones.
It used to be that you needed to be fairly good with photo editing
software to create these on your cell phone and it would take time but not anymore. Current apps like Ghost Capture make it so
easy that you can add a ghostly image to any photograph with a few clicks of a menu and to be honest they can look remarkably like reportedly authentic
images.
I edited this picture on my cell phone in the same amount of
time it takes me to send a text. This means your friend could make these changes before you even realize it and show you the faked picture in a matter of a minute or two.
The quick editing time will make the photograph seem even
more authentic because your friend will say “Look at what is in the picture I just took of you!” You will know the picture was just taken so
it will seem unlikely that there was time for anyone to tamper with it and add in this ghostly image.
Most of the applications have preset images you can add to
the photograph, but some of them are becoming sophisticated enough to allow the user to create their own translucent ghostly images to add to their photographs thus making them harder to identify for the average person.
My advice to you is: If it looks too good to be true, it is probably faked. Be skeptical and don’t believe everything you see when it comes to paranormal photography.
There are ways to read the embedded data on the file to see
when and where the picture was taken and if it has been edited with any
software but you have to have some experience to pull this data out of a cell phone picture. Have someone with technical skills show you how to look at the file data before you start sending the picture off to every paranormal investigation team in your area as proof of a haunting. It will keep you from feeling like a fool when we tell you how you have been punked.
That was a fantastic post! I’m so glad to see someone addressing this. I have always been skeptical about photos as evidence, but this makes it nearly impossible to believe anything unless you yourself took it and handled it. Thanks.
Very well said. These Iphone and Android Apps are fun and for entertainment purposes only. The technology on these smartphones are amazing and the creators of these apps are only going to get better in their ideas making these ghostly images more realistic. The sad thing is, people that are being punked or fooled are going to start looking for a loved one or a distant relative that resembles the ghostly image and believe in it. Thank You for being this to the attention of the viewers.
This is sad now we have apps ghosts “APP” to go along with orbs. Looks like I will have to start using my 35mm so I have negatives to back up my photos. Sometimes I think technology goes to far.
So true. It has become so incredibly easy to use photoshop or ghost apps that I hardly believe anything I see anymore. A pity, because it used to be interesting to investigate ghost pictures.
Who is that pretty girl on the horse?
